The Early Years
Susan knew from an early age that singing would become her life, as she was already performing around New York state even before graduating from Watertown High School in 1951. She received a four year voice scholarship to Indiana University where she completed her undergraduate degree and began touring the country performing, before winning a four year scholarship to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she obtained her Artist’s Diploma.
She studied voice with Martial Singher and Anna Kaskas, opera with Herbert Graf, lieder with Leo Rosenak and worked in Master Classes with Phyllis Curtin and Pierre Bernac.
She won the Philadelphia Young Artists Competition, and went on to perform as a soloist with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Trenton Symphony with the Metropolitan Opera, among many others.
